Four summers on this trail behind us, and we reached the heart of the continent.
And what a wonderful city Winnipeg is. Its history stories are well integrated, recognizing the important roles of Métis, First Nations and newcomers. Its outdoor spaces are fantastic and it is home to the incredible Canadian Museum of Human Rights. We are so pleased we pushed two days in to one to have an extra day here and we loved every minute … especially those spent in the Peasant Cookery and Marion Eatery.
We have 967km under our legs this year, on a combination of gravel, rutted grass, farm tracks and highway.
And we can say this about the Canadian prairies: they have the most incredible people and the most wondrous skies. So many people helped us across the flat lands – building spanners to fix Bron’s bike, shipping bike bags, ferrying us and bikes, making delicious dinners, touring us around Jansen and sharing jacuzzis. And others have just been great fun to hang out or even ride with. Thank you all.
The other thing about the prairies is the wind ALWAYS blows. We have been lucky to have it mostly in our favour.
Now to rest our bums and plan for next year …
