A really pleasant day on the bikes – early morning heavy fog, late afternoon headwinds and narrow roads notwithstanding.
Today was all paved road rolling through rural farmlands – think big fields and red barns, with occasional horses and cattle grazing. And lakes. Lots of lakes. Here the farming also includes Christmas trees. More than once the tree at Rockefeller Plaza in NYC has come from here.
But as nice as the riding was, it was still hard on the bodies. They say you can ride the legs fit, but the bums will always be sore. So true.
For the second day in a row we shared a sandwich on a lake, but today we had chipmunks for company. Then in the afternoon after a great lunch at Fancy Pants in Bridgewater the little hints of air turned into a proper sea breeze into our faces. But it brought no second wind for us.
For the last leg of 20km the road was narrow and winding, with quite a bit of traffic and we hugged the narrow line next to the edge of the tar. We finally dropped into quaint Lunenburg and the Homeport Motel. The shower was the best so far, the meal – fish, of course – just fabulous. And we continue to be impressed by the local wine.
